Our commitment to our environment in this day and age might seem cliché, even standard practice to some. But we think it's important to remind you that events like these can happen while minimizing waste and gluttony. That's why we have teamed up with EcoCup as an obligation for all our beverage service providers. It's a pretty simple concept.
During your first purchase, you make a small 2$ deposit. The cup is yours to keep. If you return it to us, we refund you 2$. That cup is then cleaned, sterilized, whatever they do to it, and we can reuse it again the next day. Genius right?
Yes, it is costing us more money, and yes, it is more work than just buying cups at Costco and throwing them away afterward, but I think it is nice to swim in clean lakes, streams, eat fresh fish and breath in oxygen, don't you?
We are also serving food to our athletes. Now, it's hard to know how much crusher here and sender there will eat. So, every night at 6 pm, the food that is left over from the day's events and staff lunches, will be brought to the OLD BREWERY MISSION homeless shelter. Yeah, again, it's more time consuming than just putting it in the garbage, but we seem to like complicated and prefer not to waste.
2019 SETTERS
Let us not forget the people that make all this possible, and a team that is neglected many times over at climbing competitions, are the setters. We wish to thank
Kaleb Thomas
Marc-Antoine Vigneault
JUSTINE ROUTCHENKO
in advance for all their hard work. Sure they get paid, but it's tantamount to a slap in the face when you crunch the numbers of hours these guys put in, not take into account the experience it takes to do this. Cheers, boys and girls.
